Solar lentigo -- Poetry 2011

Brown dots form a constellation adding depth

to my universe of wrinkled thinning skin;

they cover the backs of my hands so much more

exposed to sun’s bright glare over these 64 years.

Maybe I should name them, make up tales

to explain their existence, give them a mystique

instead of their common misnomer of liver spots…

Wikipedia calls them Solar lentigo", "Lentigo senilis",

"Old age spot," "Senile freckle”…
