Simply Simple -- Poetry 2011

Summer temperatures hide

the onset of demise as sun

sets earlier and plant growth

struggles in shorter days.

Vegetable garden plans updated,

stored with leftover seeds,

compost turned...

garden check list begs

for attention relegating

household chores to low priority.

Too many years,

so many summers,

so many harvests,

how many more?

who would tend to it?

Already the trees edged nearer…

young saplings, supple and strong,

encroached her sacred soil.

Perhaps in the end, the forest

would gather into her tender administrations,

enjoy the unadulterated earth filled

with organic compost deposits

from a simple woman living simply.
